Description

Pomanders are pierced metal or openwork cages used to hold aromatic herbs or spices. In the Middle Ages, they were often draped from the girdle or sometimes from a necklace or rosary. The beads of our Fluorite Pomander Necklace are capped with delicate filigree domes adapted from the two halves of a miniature, finely-granulated filigree pomander (Northern European, 14th or 15th century) that may have held a sponge dipped in perfume. Produced in cooperation with the Museum of Decorative Arts, Prague-UPM. Fluorite beads, with lightly antiqued sterling silver caps. (Because of the natural properties of fluorite, beads will range in color from light green to dark purple.) Length 17 1/2 in.
